When are you really busy?

Peak hours analysis for stores, cafés and restaurants

Ask any owner when their busy time is and they will answer straight away. Ask when they lose the most customers and the answer is usually the same hours. A few hours a week often decide how the whole week ends.

What peak hours analysis is

Peak hours analysis means looking at visitors, sales and staff hour by hour to find the times when demand is highest, and checking whether your shop is ready for them.

In Saudi Arabia, the pattern often differs from what standard retail advice assumes: late evenings, weekends, the hours after prayer times, and the very different rhythm of Ramadan nights. Your own data is the only reliable guide to your shop.

Busy by visitors versus busy by sales

Your POS shows when you sell the most. A door counter shows when the most people arrive. These are not always the same hour. If visitors peak earlier than sales, people are coming in and leaving before they buy, often because the queue looks too long.

That gap between visitor peak and sales peak is one of the clearest signals that you are losing customers. Our conversion rate guide explains how to measure it.

ExampleVisitors peak on Friday from 9 to 10 pm at around 120 an hour, but sales peak an hour later. Conversion in that first hour is far below your daily average, which suggests customers are walking out when the queue builds.

How to find your peak hours

  • Collect visitor counts by hour for several normal weeks.
  • Build a simple grid: days across, hours down, visitors in each cell.
  • Do the same for transactions, then for conversion.
  • Mark the hours where visitors are high but conversion falls. Those are your problem peaks.
  • Repeat for special periods such as Ramadan and holidays, which have their own pattern.

What to do once you know them

  • Move a shift to cover the peak rather than adding a full extra shift. See staff scheduling.
  • Restock and prepare before the rush, not during it.
  • Avoid breaks, deliveries and cleaning during the peak.
  • Use quiet hours for offers that spread demand, and check the result with campaign analysis.
  • Open an extra till or order point for the busiest hour.

Common mistakes

  • Relying on memory. Owners tend to remember the busiest day of the month, not the typical week.
  • Using daily totals, which hide the hours that matter.
  • Assuming every branch has the same peak. A mall branch and a street branch rarely do.
  • Planning around sales peaks only, and missing the visitors you never served.

How Tapsiera analyses peak hours

Tapsiera combines visitor counts from the door sensor with POS sales and your staffing, for every hour of every day, and shows your real peaks for each branch. It flags the hours where you are losing customers and tells you the decision in riyals: one more person on Friday night, or a till opened earlier.

Forecasts show the peaks coming next week so you can plan ahead, and alerts tell you when a usual peak is weaker than normal. No POS? Send daily sales on WhatsApp each night. Try the demo with sample café and mall data at app.tapsiera.com.

ExampleTapsiera shows Thursday 8 to 10 pm has the highest visitors per staff member in your week. Covering it with one extra person could bring back around 600 SAR a week.

Frequently asked questions

Can I find peak hours from my POS alone?

Partly. The POS shows when you sell, but not when customers arrive and leave without buying, which is often where the lost sales are.

Do peak hours change during Ramadan?

Usually a lot. Tapsiera tracks each period from your own data, so Ramadan evenings are planned on their own pattern.

Is peak hours analysis useful for a single small shop?

Yes. Even one extra person at the right hour, or one shift moved, can make a clear difference for a small shop.

How much does Tapsiera cost?

199 SAR per branch per month, VAT included. The door sensor is 1,599 SAR one time per sensor with installation included, and you can reserve now for 99 SAR, which is deducted from your first payment.
